Cultural events you can attend in Lefkas:
1. Festa del Canale
Festa del Canale is a festival that takes place at 24 – 25th of July. It combines music, songs and dance from Lefkada and other regions as well, such as Italy. It’s held during night in the canal of the city of Lefkada. Fireworks, lights and the starry sky create an unforgettable spectacular. It’s organizes by Orpheus, the local cultural and dancing club.
2. Lefkadian Gastronomy Festival
Lefkadian Gastronomy Festival is held during the 14 – 15th of July in Marka square, in the historical center of the town of Lefkada. You will have the chance to taste a great variety of foods from the traditional Lefkadian cuisine. Every year, the festival is dedicated to a different type of food, like pies and honey. The local producers will be willing to inform you about the local cuisine.
Music, dance and live cooking will offer you an unforgettable gastronomic –and not only- experience.
3. Traditional Wedding
The Traditional Lefkadian Wedding takes place in the first week of August in the well-known village Karya. The representation lasts three days. It will be the ideal chance for you to have a glimpse of the Lefkadian traditions as they survived till today. All locals are dressed in the traditional uniforms and provide live music and dance.
4. International Folklore Festival of Lefkada
International Folklore Festival of Lefkada was first held in 1962 and until today, it takes place in Cultural Center and the Open Theatre of Lefkada from 18th of August to 25 August. Groups from all around the world tangle different traditions and introduce us to the traditional dances of their regions every night during the festival.
5. Varkarola Festival
Varkarola Festival is organized at 16th of August in the coastal road Aggelos Sikelianos in the Lefkada city. The festival starts at 10:00 pm. Locals into the traditional boats, float in the canal singing kantades, traditional romantic songs from Eptanisa. The songs are accompanied with traditional instruments, creating a beautiful atmosphere.
All summer long you can attend tens of theatrical plays, dances and concerts in Open Theater ( in the city of Lefkada, next to the building of the Cultural Center of Lefkada, at the beginning of the coastal road Angelos Sikelianos) or in Garden theater (in the city of Lefkada). You can visit Art Hall (Skidaresi 1, Lefkada) as well were you can enjoy a great variety of exhibitions and visual arts.
